What We Do

The Bainbridge Island Land Trust’s mission is to preserve and steward the diverse natural environment of Bainbridge Island for the benefit of all. We carry out our mission by acquiring lands or an interest in land, via purchase or donated conservation easements that have significant conservation values to protect. Many of the acquisition projects the Land Trust has been involved in have been turned over to the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park and Recreation District for management. The Land Trust has retained an interest in some properties in the form of a conservation easement (permanent land protection agreement). The Land Trust is required to monitor lands it holds conservation easements on. We have established a Stewardship Program to conduct annual monitoring visits to these properties.
